Denise was a wonderful person with a huge heart. I got to know her when I was the Rear Detachment Commander for the 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team at Fort Lewis/JBLM, WA from 2009-10. Denise was an ardent supporter of the military and of our brigade in particular. During the latter half of our brigade's deployment to Iraq, she served as the first President of the Lacey, WA sub-chapter of the Association of the US Army (AUSA). In that role, she spearheaded significant fundraising efforts in a very short period of time. She oversaw the donation of that money to the Army's Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation (FMWR) Program, which in turn enabled our brigade to enjoy a first-class welcome home BBQ with live bands and other fun activities for our Soldiers and Families. She continued to support our brigade into the next deployment. We are indebted to Denise for her unwavering support and we pray for comfort and healing for her family and friends.
