Obituary for Jennie Lee Mauck (Boyer)

Jennie Lee (Boyer) Mauck of Clarksburg, MD, and Martinsburg, WV, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at the Hospice Unit of the Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born March 20, 1937, in Martinsburg, Jennie was the daughter of the late William Everett Boyer and Margaret Mabel (Myers) Boyer.

She was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church in Martinsburg since 1958 where she was a Sunday School teacher for preschoolers. Educated in Jefferson County schools, Jennie graduated from the University of Maryland with a BS degree and achieved a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from American University.

Mrs. Mauck was first employed by the Army Map Service and later the U.S. Geological Survey as a secretary. She subsequently served many years as a personnel administrator at the National Institutes of Health and then the U.S. Department of Labor.

She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years and 10 months, Hunter Lee Mauck; one daughter, Connie Frances Cooper and husband, Roy, of Manassas, VA; one brother, William E. Boyer, Jr., of Brownsville, KY; two sisters - Linda Lou Walker, of Brownsville, KY, and Patricia Ann Johnston who lives in Martinsburg with her husband, Norval and their children, Stephen and Norval G. Johnston III; a grandson, Auston Cooper; and a niece, Marta Swisher.

In addition to her parents, Jennie was preceded in death by two brothers - Henry M. “Marty” Boyer and Wayne D. Boyer.

In her years growing up in Shepherdstown, she spent many hours in their Public Library where she became an avid reader; a habit that continued throughout her life often reading over 2 dozen books a year. Her enjoyment of vegetable and flower gardening complimented her wonderful cooking ability with an enthusiasm for gourmet cooking. For 36 years she, along with her husband and close friends, made 2 to 7 kettles of apple butter for the benefit of the city hospital Ladies Auxiliary, the West View Wise Owls 4H Club, and for close friends and family. Jennie and Hunter treated their helpers to a traditional farm meal at lunch and a most enjoyable supper. She also really enjoyed mowing grass and collecting leaves on her Cub Cadet.

Jennie also shared Hunter’s enthusiasm for antique cars and their clubs. These include The Heart of Maryland Model T’s Car Club where she was a charter member and past secretary, the Sugar Loaf Mountain Region Antique Automobile Club of America where she past president, and the Model T Ford Club-International for which she and Hunter coordinated club sales. Because of the extensive knowledge of cars they were often called on to be judges at various car meets where Jennie earned over 60 credits.

They own both a 1924 Model T touring car named ‘Charlotte’ and a 1926 Ford Roadster pick-up truck in restoration. They participated in local tours and national car club events, trailering ‘Charlotte’ to each event. Jennie and Hunter were also past members of the National DeSoto Club, the National Model A Car Club, and the Antique Automobile Club of America. They participated in multiple driving tours in their original 1949 DeSoto, their 1966 Ford F-100 pick-up, and their 1980 Mercury Bobcat.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at 11:00AM at the Brown Funeral Home with Dr. Rufus Burton officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00AM to 11:00AM. Interment will be in Green Hill Cemetery in Martinsburg, WV, immediately following this service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dillon Farm Museum, PO Box 2731, Martinsburg, WV 25402.
