Obituary for Richard Lee Shirley

Richard Lee Shirley,76, of Middleway, passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at Berkeley Medical Center.

Born on July 26, 1942 in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late Thurman Lee and Evelyn Mae Pierce Shirley.

He was a member of the Middleway United Methodist Church; and was a veteran of the U. S. Army Reserve.

Richard was an avid hunter, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and he loved a good joke.

For 20 years he owned his own sawmill. He retired as a mechanic from the Leetown Fish Hatchery.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Linda Marie Leight Shirley; one daughter, Amy Shirley Rose and husband James “Owen” Rose of Middleway; one granddaughter, Kalli Marie Sydnor; and five foster children who remember him fondley.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas E. Shirley and John R. Shirley.

Services and interment will be private.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
