Catherine Doss Long entered the gates of heaven on the evening of Friday, October 19, 2018 at 8:42 PM.

Born on St. Patricks Day of 1932 in Amherst, Virginia, Catherine lived a long fruitful life filled with multiple trips to exotic locations such as Hawaii and cruises through the Panama Canal.

Catherine was a 1949 graduate of E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg, Virginia. She soon met and married Palmer Jim Long on March 10, 1951. They were happily married until his death in 1987.

She was devout member of Second Baptist Church in Martinsburg, where she was involved with the church’s kitchen, baptism committee and choir for over 30 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents Leonard and Lillie Doss; her husband, Palmer J. Long. She is the last of her family, preceded in death by her brothers, Russel and Richard Doss and sisters, Alice McCann and Francis Pritchett.

Catherine leaves behind two sons, Ron M. Long and former daughter in-law Jackee Long of Martinsburg, Robert P. Long and wife Dawn of Inwood. Additionally, Catherine leaves behind a brother and sister-in-law, Milton and Pat Long, three grandchildren, Tyler, Jamie, and Justin, who she was extremely proud of. Catherine also leaves behind three nieces, Judy Lacey, Sandra Stanaitis and Linda Kay as well as two nephews, Jeffrey and Bryan Long..

The family will welcome friends for a viewing at 1:00 PM Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at the Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg.

A 1:30 PM funeral service will immediately follow the viewing.
