Obituary for Carol Evelyn Kesecker

Carol Evelyn Kesecker, 68, of Martinsburg, went to be with her Lord on Monday, December 31, 2018 at Valley Health War Memorial Hospital.

Born December 31, 1950 in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late Wilson and Phyllis Wasson Basore.

She was a devoted and faithful member of Independent Bible Church, actively involved in the music ministries and children’s and teen ministries as well.

She was a graduate of Martinsburg High School, Class of 1968. After graduation she worked at local businesses in Martinsburg including Heck’s Department Store, IGA Supermarket, and Corning Glass Works. Working with children in the county was her passion, both in secular and Christian educational settings. This love of teaching then led to her serving in the Berkeley Co. School system for 18 years as a teacher’s assistant. Her love for teaching children and her infectious smile encouraged and influenced both children and staff alike. After contracting bacterial meningitis in May of 2011 she was forced to retire from the Berkeley County Schools after 18 years of service. Because of her illness, her next “assignment” would then be at the Berkeley Springs Center where she resided until the time of her homegoing. Her infectious smile and her optimistic attitude won the hearts of both staff and residents there. The family is very grateful for the love and care shown by the Berkeley Springs Center.

She is survived by husband, Gene Kelly Kesecker; three sons, Jeffrey Paul LeHew, Mark Allen LeHew and wife, Mary, and Christopher Emanuel Johnson and wife, Breanna; five grandchildren, Presley Cole, Lincoln, Grant, and Pierce LeHew and Scarlett Johnson; brother, David Basore; sister, Beverly Ann Moore; beloved cousin Sharon LeHew and husband, David; niece Sarah; great-niece Madison; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 4, 2019 at Brown Funeral Home.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2019 with Pastor Curt Lowry and Pastor Mark Johnson officiating at Independent Bible Church, 2306 Hedgesville Road, Martinsburg, WV 25403. Family will also receive friends one hour prior to the service from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m..
