Obituary for James Bernard Wasson Jr.

James Bernard Wasson, Jr., 81, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at Clary Grove Nursing Home.

Born October 4, 1937, in Hedgesville WV, he was the son of the late James Bernard Wasson and Lillian “Gaither” Wasson.

James was in the U.S. Marine Corps, and a mechanic at Corning Glass Works. He was also one of the founders of Martinsburg Little League in 1964 and served as a coach, manager, and umpire. He was District Administrator for little league. He also served in the Eastern Panhandle Officials Association for 41 years.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Wasson; two sons James Wasson and wife Cynthia, and John Skelly; two daughters Deborah Walker and husband Daniel, and Kristin Skelly; six grandchildren, Emily Walker, Whitney Fraley, Taylor Wasson, Katlin Skelly, Matt Prevette and Mike Prevette; three great-grandchildren Dominic Fraley, Camella Prevette, and Harper Prevette; two brothers, Alvin “Skeets” Poisal and wife Janet, and Randy Wasson; two sisters Eileen Young and Sherry Malatt and husband David.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rebecca Harrison Wasson; one brother William Wasson; and four sisters, Edna Hite, Judy McVey, Dorothy Kilmer, and Peggy Wasson Gano.

Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at 1:00 PM at the Martinsburg Little League Park at Oatesdale Park in Martinsburg, WV.
