Obituary for Lonnie Scott Walling

On the morning of May 18, 2019, Lonnie Scott Walling of Falling Waters passed away at age 69, after a long struggle with respiratory illness.

Scott was born to Bob and Bobbie Walling on May 1, 1950, in Coronado, California. He served in the Navy and worked on the Trans-Alaska Pipeline in the mid-70’s, among various other jobs. Scott’s last position, before he retired in April 2016, was as a senior programmer of flight software for Microtel-LLC, a subcontractor at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. On April 19, 1994, he married Beverly Ornberg on the top deck of a cruise ship off the western coast of Mexico.

Scott was an avid reader, always taking his beloved Kindle wherever he went. He was also passionate about traveling, especially cruising, live theater, and spending time with his many friends. Scott was loved by everyone who met him, as he always smiled and had kind words for others, with his governing philosophy being, “It doesn’t cost anything to be nice to people.”

Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Bobbie Walling, and his brother, Robi Walling. He is survived by his wife, Beverly; his sister, Marie Walling Thompson; his step-mother, Betty Walling, and step-brothers, Alan and Rusty Brown; his son, Joseph Lee and grandson, Jackson; his step-daughter, Jessica Ruddle, and her husband, James; his nephew, David Walling; and numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and cousins.

Memorial arrangements are pending. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Olney Theatre Center in Olney, Maryland.
