Obituary for Russell Carl Brink Sr.

Russell Carl Brink, Sr., 74 passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at Winchester Medical Center after battling leukemia.

Born on March 2, 1945 in Waterman, PA, he was the son of the late Clarence Brink and Ileanea Dailey Brink.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Ralph Brink, Allen Brink, Donald Brink, Clarence Brink, and David Brink; three sisters, Jane Brink, Joann Brink and Diane Buchanan, and one grandson Jonathan Brink.

As the third youngest of eleven children, he grew up in Waterman, Pa and attended Homer City High School. He proudly served his country in the US Navy and was a boiler tender on the USS O’ Brien in the Vietnam Conflict. He settled in Hollidaysburg, PA and worked as a pipe fitter/ welder for ConRail from 1967-2004.

He served as baseball coach and commissioner for the Hollidaysburg Little League. He enjoyed camping, fishing, spending time with his family and rooting for the six time SuperBowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers. He was known to be a jack of all trades as there was never a job too big or a broken appliance or car that he couldn’t fix.

He and Jeanne moved to Bunker Hill, WV in 2007. In his retirement, he enjoyed traveling and watching his grandchildren grow, attending every play, musical and sporting event possible. He also proudly served as a trustee for Grace Bible Fellowship and loved being called upon to assist in church maintenance and repairs.

The family would like to extend special thanks to his extensive care team including Dr. Schwentker, Dr. Keng at UVA, Dr. Ingram and everyone at the Cancer Center and all the caregivers at Winchester Medical Center who have cared for him over the past year.

He is survived by his wife Myra Jean Shaffer Brink; 2 sons William Brink and his wife Catherine, Russell Carl Brink, Jr and his wife Christine; six grandchildren Evan, Joseph, Julia, Maria, Benjamin and Eleanor; one brother Gerald Brink and one sister Nancy Waltemire.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Grace Bible Fellowship, 643 Grace Church Road, Clearbrook, VA 22624 in memory of Russell Brink.

A church service followed by a reception will be held at Grace Bible Fellowship, 643 Grace Church Road, Clearbrook, VA 22624 on Saturday, June 15th at 1PM.
