Obituary for Effie Marie "Marie" Mong (McKee)

Effie “Marie” McKee Mong, 82, of Martinsburg, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at Hospice Inpatient Facility surrounded by family and friends.

Born September 1, 1937 in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late Jack Greenwood McKee and Edna May Miller McKee.

She was a 1955 graduate of Martinsburg High School. She was employed at Lord & Lord, Jim Seibert Buick, Bon Ton and Berkeley Senior Center. She was a PTA mom, football mom and neighborhood mom.

Marie was a lifelong member of Mt. Wesley United Methodist Church. There she sang in the choir, served as a Sunday School Teacher, Bible School Teacher, Church Council Member, Church Treasurer, President of the United Methodist Women and Operation Shoebox Chair.

For many years she served the community as a Hospice Clerical Volunteer and PASS Volunteer.

Marie was the Activities Assistant for Berkeley Senior Services, and the office manager for Bon Ton in Martinsburg (25 years) and Jim Seibert Buick.

She is survived by her three children, Lorelei, (Kenny) George, Julia Harper, and Timothy, (Genny) Mong; five grandchildren, Alisha, Ben, Travis, Katie and K.W.; eight great-grandchildren, and one on the way; one brother, Jack McKee; two sisters, Patricia Herbaugh, and June Thompson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one infant sister, Virginia Lee.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Brown Funeral Home.

Services will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Ed Grove officiating.

Interment will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to Mt. Wesley U. M. Church at 4622 Scrabble Rd., Shepherdstown, WV 25443 or Hospice of the Panhandle at 330 Hospice Ln, Kearneysville, WV 25430.

The family would like to thank Berkeley Medical Center, Clary Grove and Hospice of the Panhandle.

Marie will be greatly missed by all.

Ms. Marie was a joy to know and work with at Hospice of the Panhandle. She was always smiling, had a great attitude and was willing to do any task i assigned her. She will be missed for sure, prayers for the family at this time of loss.
