Obituary for Dell Roy Wightman

Dell Roy Wightman passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at the Berkeley Medical Center after an extended battle with IPF.

He leaves his loving wife Eva and many great times and happy moments they had together.

He was born in 1933 to Roy and Grace Wightman in Payson, Utah and is survived by two sisters, Kay and Joy in Utah; three children, Kim, Gay, and Deke in Georgia; six grandchildren, Meredith, Phil, Josh, Peter, Sam, and Ben all in Georgia or Texas plus one great-granddaughter in Texas, Juniper.

He joined the Air Force in January 1953. He moved to Martinsburg in 1964 as the full time Navigator for the 167th Air National Guard. He became the Deputy Commander in 1983 and acting commander for one year, retiring in June 1992. He did volunteer income taxes at the Library and Senior Center four times a week for eight years in tax season. He volunteered for 20 years at Meals on Wheels, and over twenty years of C-CAP/Loaves and Fishes.

He wishes to thank all those dedicated volunteers that have and still are volunteering, also wish to thank my neighbors for their friendship and help. He wanted to thank Eva’s family for their welcome and accepting him into their family. Last but not least he would like to thank all his friends from the 167th and his golfing buddies for all the great memories.

"I wanted no funeral as I wish my passing to be a cause for celebration of a Good Life and Retirement. Until we meet again. Here’s to all of you. Cheers."
