Obituary for Mary Kathleen Hefestay (Ginnelly)
Mary Kathleen Ginnelly Hefestay, 70 of Kearneysville, WV passed away peacefully on Monday, January 27, 2020 due to complications associated with cancer. A Vigil service will be held 7 pm. On Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at the Jefferson Chapel Funeral Home, Ranson, WV. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 am on Thursday, February 13, 2020 at St. James the Greater Catholic Church with Father Leonard Smith as the Celebrant. Inurnment will be a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
A native of Colorado, she was the daughter of the late John and Patricia (Hickey) Ginnelly. She graduated from University of Colorado with a BA in English and had a successful career in the banking industry. She spent her later years substituting as a teacher in Loudoun County and caring for her youngest grandchild. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, F.J. Hefestay, Jr., daughter Joan West (Chip) and grandchildren Kathryn, Alexander and Caroline.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers, Michael and Philip Ginnelly.
Mary was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother (aka Narnie). She lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures, chatting with friends and family, cooking delicious food and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a spiritual woman who was involved in many church activities throughout her life, including teaching catechism classes and being a Eucharistic minister. Mary had the ability to connect with people of all ages in a thoughtful and encouraging manner. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all that knew her.
