Obituary for Catherine Lula Penn (Murphy)

Catherine Lula Murphy Penn, 89, passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at Hospice of the Panhandle Inpatient Facility.

Born on July 26, 1930 in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late Osborn Dewey Murphy Sr. and Margaret Zepp Murphy.

Catherine was a 1948 graduate of Martinsburg High School. She had worked at Corning Glass. She retired from the IRS.

She was member of the Blairton United Methodist Church. She was actively involved with the Berkeley Senior Center and NARFE. She was a lifetime member of Women of the Moose Lodge #738 and the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. She was a member of the Pikeside Senior Bowling League.

She is survived by two sons, Dewey Seibert Way and wife, Pamela, their children, April and Kathi, Terry Eugene Pearrell and wife, Brenda, their children, Sasha, Courtney and Alex; one daughter, Darlene Way Shelton, her children, Dawn Lisa and Joe; nineteen great- grandchildren, Curtis, Corey, Aubrey, Collin, Halley, Joseph, Myles, Trey, Shelby, Brianna, Hunter, Shelby, Shana, Berkeley, Remington, Sydney, Savannah, Levi, and William; six great-great grandchildren, Carter, Jayla, Vera, Aleshia, Camden, Rayland. She is also survived by numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Penn; four brothers, Kenneth Murphy, Albert Murphy, O.D. Murphy, Jr. and Carl Murphy; four sisters, Marie Osborn Murphy, Louise Wise, Irene Goetz, and Evelyn Runyon. She was the last of her immediate family.

The family would like to thank the Berkeley County Senior Center Day Care Dementia Unit for their love and care for Catherine.

Family will receive friends on Sunday, February 23, 2020 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Brown Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 24, 2020 at 1:00 PM at Brown Funeral Home.

Interment will be at Rosedale Cemetery.
