Obituary for Gary Lynn Toms

Gary Lynn Toms, 69, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2020 in Kearneysville, West Virginia surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife, Gaye Toms whom he married in 1986; his children, Amy Toms, Gary Toms (Daniella), and Rachael Grunberg (Marc); granddaughter Gia Toms; brother Terry Toms; his siblings-in-law, Sharon Webb (Randy) and John Hess (Katie); and a host of family and friends.

Born November 3, 1950, in Hagerstown, Maryland, he was the son of the late Bernard and Marilyn Toms. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Donald “Sharkey” Toms, sister, Linda Wahler and sister Paula Toms who died in infancy.
Gary graduated from South Hagerstown High school in 1968 and worked as a conductor with CSX Transportation (formerly Western Maryland Railroad) retiring in 2010 after 40 years of service.

He attended Valley Assembly of God in Hagerstown, Maryland and was a member of the Hub City Model A Ford club. He had a great many passions including his restored Model A Ford, spending time “on the water” with friends, and working on his model train layout. He was a loving husband, a wonderful father and grandfather and a loyal friend to many.

Family will receive friends at Brown Funeral Home South Berkeley Chapel in Inwood – 287 Arden Nollville Road, Inwood, West Virginia on Tuesday, March 17 from 2:00pm-4:00pm and 6:00pm-8:00pm.

A celebration of his life will be held at Harmony United Methodist Church, 9455 Williamsport Pike, Falling Waters, WV on Wednesday, March 18 at 2:00pm followed by graveside services at Rest Haven Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Pastor Robert Jones will officiate. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
