Obituary for James Anthony Graham

James Anthony Graham
James Anthony Graham’s short life came to an end on August 18, 2016. He was only two years old, but in that time, taught us much about life, about love, and about ourselves.
Shortly after his birth on June 9, 2014, James was diagnosed with Fanconi Anemia, a genetic condition that causes bone marrow failure and greatly increased cancer risk. It can also cause physical anomalies. James spent too much of his life being affected by this disease, which required him to spend a lot of time in doctors’ offices and in hospitals. Despite this, James was a very happy child, and his smile was infectious. Even through the pain and suffering, James radiated joy, and those who knew him couldn’t possibly miss it.
From James, we learned that there’s value in being strong for those who cannot be strong themselves. We learned that you don’t have to have much to be happy. We learned that love doesn’t require anything—it’s something you give, and as it turns out, the more you give, the more you have.
James is survived by his parents, Jessica Marie Grady and Jaime George Graham, by his big sister Alice Elaine Grady, by his maternal and paternal grandparents, and by many aunts, uncles, and cousins, all of whom loved him dearly.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 27 at 3:30 PM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Harpers Ferry, WV. A joyous Celebration of Life will take place afterward at Jefferson Memorial Park in Charles Town which will include a balloon release, a bounce house, food, and lots of other fun surprises. All who loved James are welcome. Yes, we mourn the little boy who was taken from us too soon, but we will celebrate all the joy he brought us in the time we had with him.
