Early 1960's

Sometime in the mid 1960's, we all gathered at the War Memorial Park for our annual 4th of July picnic. During a badminton game, the "birdie" was hit into the top of a 40 Foot Maple Tree (including a concrete, WW II Memorial Plaque placed for a fallen soldier at the base of the tree)....so being the youngest volunteer, I climbed the tree to retrieve it...once I retrieved it, I dropped it to the ground and began my descent down the tree but lost my footing on a branch and started my free fall to the ground....I can still hear my mother yell "Catch him Jim, catch him"! Uncle Jim caught me in his arms and saved me from catastrophic injuries or more. It was quite a rescue and I have never forgotten that day. BTW, he was one heckuva softball player as well.
